You can add an existing User Story to a release. It does not matter that in which sprint it is located. Use dropdown, placed on Filter bar.

Add-Items-Yodiz-Icon Add > User Story – existing

It will load Planning Board. Open the Sprint/Backlog in one panel and Release in another panel. You can drag and drop selected items to Release Panel.
